Pre-Implantation Genetic Testing (PGT)

The Preimplantation Genetic Test (PGT) detects some genetic and chromosomal alterations in embryos to prevent serious hereditary diseases. At Panama Fertility we have the latest technology to increase your chances of conceiving.

GENETIC TEST

Why Is Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT) Recommended?

At Panama Fertility we care about the future health of your baby from before conception. Preimplantation genetic testing can be used to analyze chromosome number abnormalities (PGT-A), monogenic abnormalities (PGT-M) or chromosomal rearrangements (PGT-SR), among other disorders.

Pre-Implantation Genetic Testing for Aneuploides (PGT-A)

Formerly PGS. This procedure is an add-on to your IVF cycle. Prior to embryo transfer, a small number of cells are removed from the embryo. The embryo would have been created either in vitro (in glass) fertilization (IVF) or through intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) in our laboratory. The DNA of these cells is then screened for any chromosomal defects. This greatly improves your chance of successful IVF when only embryos with no chromosomal defects are implanted.

Pre-Implantation Genetic Testing for Monogenic Defects (PGT-M)

This procedure is more recently referred to as PGD. In this process, the embryo’s genes and or chromosomes are tested specifically looking for a genetic condition or inherited disease. Even if you do not suffer with fertility problems, this procedure may prevent a serious genetic disease and can be performed on embryos that have been created in our laboratory through IVF or ICSI. This gives you peace of mind that any family condition will not be passed on to your child as we will only implant embryos that are free from the specific condition.

Pre-Implantation Genetic Testing for Structural Chromosomal Rearrangements (PGT-SR)

This procedure detects chromosomal rearrangements that may be inherited. This prevents passing an incorrect number of chromosomes to your child.

You may opt for this genetic test if you have had a previous child or fetal loss that was determined to have a chromosomal rearrangement or if you or your partner has a chromosomal rearrangement.
