Fertility Preservation
Why is Fertility Preservation recommended?
For Medical Reasons
Other medical reasons include the risk of needing repeated ovarian surgery to treat diseases such as endometriosis or the risk of losing ovarian function due to autoimmune diseases that also require chemotherapy, or for bone marrow transplants.
For Personal Reasons
For women who have not yet met their partner or want to experience single motherhood, egg freezing allows them to stop their biological clock, as the egg maintains the same age as when it was frozen.
The earlier you decide to freeze your eggs, the better chance you have of getting pregnant when you are ready or want to start a family.

What is Fertility Preservation?
The eggs will not age, remaining the same age they were when they were extracted and frozen.
It consists of the following procedures:
Ovarian Stimulation
The patient is started on medication to stimulate the ovaries and help the follicles mature for retrieval, and is monitored to ensure that the medication is having the desired effect, or may be adjusted if the patient is overstimulated or understimulated. Once the fertility specialist confirms that the appropriate number of follicles has been reached, an appointment for egg retrieval is scheduled.
Egg Retrieval Day
This procedure is usually scheduled approximately 12 days after starting the medication. Recovery time is short or minimal, as there are no cuts or stitches. Most patients are able to live a normal life the next day.
Egg Retrieval Process
The procedure to retrieve the eggs is relatively painless and is performed under light sedation, but you may experience some mild pain afterwards. Our fertility specialist removes the eggs using a thin catheter through the vaginal wall into the ovary with light suction.
Egg Vitrification
We follow a procedure called egg vitrification. Egg vitrification is a method of rapid freezing using liquid nitrogen in which the eggs are frozen at -196º to ensure that they are kept in the best conditions for future use.
Egg Preservation
Your eggs are stored in our state-of-the-art, environmentally controlled laboratory facility to ensure optimal preservation for use when the time is right.
Egg Thawing
The thawing of eggs that have been frozen by vitrification is instantaneous and therefore comparable to that of a fresh egg. When you are ready, you will need to book an In Vitro Fertilization procedure to have those eggs fertilized with your partner's or a donor's sperm.
