Egg Freezing

Our advanced egg freezing technique, also known as oocyte vitrification, offers you the opportunity to protect your reproductive options for the future.

¿Why should I freeze my eggs?

From the age of 35 onwards, one in six women who decide to have children will encounter some kind of difficulty in achieving it. By freezing your eggs, you gain the freedom to control your reproductive timeline. This allows you to pursue personal and professional goals without the worry of age-related fertility decline.

Certain medical conditions and treatments can affect fertility. Freezing your eggs before undergoing these procedures can help protect your fertility.  And if you have not yet found the right partner or are not ready to start a family, this option offers you the opportunity to extend your fertility window.

What does egg freezing consist of?

After starting medication to stimulate your ovaries and help follicles mature for collection, you will be monitored to ensure your medication is having the desired effect and may be adjusted if you are over or under-stimulating. Once our fertility consultant at Panama Fertility confirms that the right number of follicles is achieved, we will schedule an appointment for the egg retrieval procedure.

This procedure is relatively painless and is conducted under light sedation. Our fertility specialist collects the eggs using a fine catheter through the vaginal wall into the ovary with light suction.

The eggs are then frozen at -196º to ensure they remain young and in the best conditions, to enable women to decide when the best time is.

Why is egg freezing recommended?

  • Patients at risk of losing their ovarian function: women who have been diagnosed with cancer who are going to be treated with chemotherapy or radiotherapy, autoimmune diseases which require chemotherapy, bone marrow transplants, and women at risk of needing repeated ovarian surgery, for example to treat endometriosis.

  • When there is no medical indication, or for “social” reasons: women who decide to postpone motherhood for various reasons, or because their financial or work circumstances prevent them from having a child.

Marybeth & Steve

Our journey had been a long one and unsuccessful in trying to get pregnant. We decided to visit a fertility clinic near where we live, and it wasn't the experience we were looking for. I mentioned the idea of medical tourism and we found Panama Fertility. Some of the reasons we decided to choose Panama Fertility is the cost difference. We made a virtual appointment with the clinic, and we felt very comfortable with the doctor. He explained how the whole process could work, we could live in South Florida and just travel for the treatments. However, we had been working from home and decided to move to Panama. Loved the people, loved the country. And it's a much nicer lifestyle at a fraction of the price. Everybody in the clinic has been very friendly. And now we're looking forward to our success story.

After 11 years of marriage and three years without success, we knew something was wrong. Despite visiting specialists and undergoing tests, we never received a conclusive answer. Eventually, we gave up on the idea of becoming parents. However, during the pandemic, we decided to explore our options and discovered Panama Fertility. From the first visit, we received a clear plan and felt supported by Dr. Mario Vega, who was always accessible. The process was relaxed, and to our surprise, we conceived on the first try. The clinic's supportive atmosphere relieved all our stress. The level of professionalism and customer service is exceptional. We wholeheartedly recommend Panama Fertility.

What is the process of egg freezing at Panama Fertility?

At Panama Fertility, the egg-freezing process begins with ovarian stimulation, where fertility medications are administered to stimulate the ovaries to produce multiple mature eggs. The progress of ovarian stimulation is monitored through ultrasounds and hormone level measurements. Once the eggs reach the desired stage, they are retrieved through a minimally invasive procedure. The eggs are then carefully frozen using advanced cryopreservation techniques for future use.

How long can eggs be frozen and stored at Panama Fertility?

Eggs can be frozen and stored at Panama Fertility for an extended period, typically up to 10 years or longer, following local regulations and the clinic's policies. The state-of-the-art cryopreservation facility ensures the eggs are stored and maintained optimally to preserve their viability.

What factors should I consider when deciding to freeze my eggs?

It's important to consider your age, as egg quality and quantity decline as you age. The younger you are when you freeze your eggs, the higher your chances of future success. Other factors include your personal and medical history and your future family planning goals. Consulting with a fertility specialist at Panama Fertility can help you make an informed decision based on your circumstances.

What are the potential risks or side effects of egg freezing?

Egg freezing is generally considered safe, but like any medical procedure, there are potential risks. These may include a small chance of complications during the egg retrieval procedure and possible damage to the eggs during the freezing and thawing. The fertility specialists at Panama Fertility will provide detailed information about the potential risks and side effects and address any concerns you may have.
